The Drivers-
The
experienced driving duo for our 1989 Corvette entry consists of car owner and
veteran One Lapper, John McElhinney and his good friend Mark Joppru, who
coincidently is also a recent One Lap veteran.
John is an
experienced and intuitive driver that has three, very competitive years under
his belt in the O.L.O.A., in addition to having previously attended many
racing/high performance-driving schools that further sharpened his skills to be
a competitive racer.
|
| |
| “I met John in 1999 after prepping the Corvette for One Lap while
I was still employed at LPE”, stated Phil Rickard, co-owner and President of
DynoTech Engineering Inc. “We instantly struck up a friendship and we kept in
touch throughout the years with the intent of doing a venture like this again
when I opened up my own place. He’s a really smart driver and a good friend and
I feel honored and lucky to have him in the driver’s seat for this event”.
McElhinney will be responsible for the majority of the competitive driving
duties while at each event. John resides in Detroit, MI. with his beautiful and
supportive wife Lisa and their three wonderful children, Christine, Jill and
Matthew. |
 |
| |
|
John’s
co-driver, Mark Joppru is also a previous O.L.O.A. veteran “Lap Dog”, who has
competitively participated in two previous One Lap events. Mark has also
successfully completed a multitude of high performance driving schools that
have enabled him to participate in such races as this and be an excellent
co-driver for John at the track. He will also pilot the Corvette at different tracks
along the route.
Mark will be an invaluable teammate,
navigator and relief driver while on the road, to allow John time to catch a
few winks while traveling between track to track. “He’s just a super nice guy”,
states Phil, “He and John have been friends for a long time and they get along
so well, which is very important when your stuck with someone in a cramped car
for eight days straight”. Phil goes on
to say, “We’re lucky to have such a good driving team our first year
participating in this and our prayers for a safe race go out to them during
their travels”.
|
| |
 |
The
Vehicle-
John and Mark will be driving a DTE race
prepped, 1989 C4 Corvette that has successfully competed in the 1999-2001 One
Lap of America and misc. auto cross events piloted by John. It is equipped with
a blueprinted, EFI 383 L98 w/ Accel Super Ram Induction, mated to a DTE
prepared ZF S6-40 6-speed transmission, followed up by a Dana 44 rear
differential.
|
| |
|
The vehicle was purposely built, dyno tuned and calibrated by DynoTech
Engineering Inc. to utilize a fuel mix of regular pump gas and nitro-methane to
enhance its performance at the various road racing tracks and drag strips. While
not disclosing the car’s actual horsepower level, Phil commented with a smile,
“It will be in excess of 470 or so and should be a ball to drive”.
